The Partner Learning Center

 


 

Introduction

The Partner Learning Center (PLC) is a core benefit of the Microsoft Partner Network (MPN).  The PLC provides sales, technical, and business skills training. The PLC is used in two ways:

1. Online – both for on-demand learning and registration for live online training.

2. In Person - as a registration system for live in person events.

This document provides step by step instructions for utilizing the PLC for Learning, referred to as Learner mode.

1.     Navigating the Homepage

The Menu bar provides navigation options and a full menu of the functionality available.

 

The Quick links provides one-click access to commonly-used features. See the following sections for detailed instructions: Training Schedule, Training Transcript, Install the PLC Outlook Calendar Add-in.

 

Search on the left side of the homepage provides quick access to basic and advanced search. See Locating Training Content.

 

The Shortcut boxes provide access to manage your training, PLC notifications, calendar and pending activities.

 

The Training Activities tab in the “To Do” section of the homepage contains all of your training activities in a single view. See the section titled Managing your To Do List.

 

Use the Profile link to set Preferences. See the section titled Setting Preferences.

 

The Help menu contains links to additional resources.

 

 

 

 

2.     Setting Preferences   

The display language of the PLC is based off your browser settings. If you wish to change the display language for your current PLC session, you can do so through Preferences. However, you will need to change your browser settings for the changes to take effect for future sessions. Time zone settings are based off of Preferences selected in the PLC.

 

§  Click on Profile in the upper right hand corner of the PLC Homepage.

§  Select your Region and Time zone by using the drop down menus to make the appropriate selections. The Regional setting will set language (for the current session) and the Time zone setting provides live training session details in your local time.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


§  Click OK at the bottom of the page to save any changes.

 

 

§  You cannot change details of your user profile such as contact information from here. To do so, access your Individual Microsoft Partner Network account here: https://partners.microsoft.com/partnerprogram/individualprofile.aspx?a=1. If you make changes, be sure to click “Update.”

 

 

 

 

 

 

3.     Locating Training Content

Use the Search feature by typing in a keyword or keywords. 

§  Search will return training content that contains the keyword(s) either in the Title or the Description of the course.

§  If multiple keywords are used, results will contain entries that contain all keywords; however, not in any particular sequence or order.

§  Search results can be filtered further by using the categories provided below the Search box after a Search has been conducted.  Click on the category to see the sub-categories provided.

 

 

 

 

 

 

§  Single click on the Title of a course to view details, which will appear at the bottom of the screen.

§  To see expanded details, including the full course title and description, click on the View Details button.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Using Advanced Search:

Advanced Search can be used to refine search criteria. Note: Selections made for delivery language(s), will be saved for future sessions.

§  Click on Advanced Search to expand the search options.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


§  Expand one or more of the options and select the desired criteria to refine your search.

 

4.     Register for and Attend Training

The registration process will vary depending upon how the course is located.

How do I Register for a course?

§  To register for a course, click the Register button either from a direct link that has been provided or after locating the course through Search.

 

NOTE: A direct link may also be provided that by-passes the “Register” button and provides the opportunity to select the offering you wish to attend (see the next step below).

 OR

 

 

 

 

§  Choose the offering that you would like to attend, select any associated sessions, and click the Submit button. 

NOTE: If the Submit button is not active, review your selections to ensure that you have met the requirements for Registration.

 

§  Once you have submitted your registration, you will see a registration confirmation message.

NOTE: If you select an Offering that is full or requires approval, you will receive a status message. You can view your status multiple ways:

o   From the Left NavàLocate the Quick LinksàClick on “Pending Activities”

 

OR

o   Click on the Learn MenuàTraining Schedule

 

o   Change the View to “Waiting list or pending approval or pending payment”

 


 

How do I view if there is a cost associated with a course?

Some training activities in the PLC have a cost associated with them.  To view the cost after performing a search in the PLC:

 

§  Single click on the Title of a course and the details of the course will appear at the bottom of the screen.

NOTE: Be sure that you have highlighted the listing of the course with the Activity Type = “Course (Live).” If the selection has been expanded, and you are viewing the Activity Type = “Course Offering (Live)” the cost information will not be available from this view.

 

 

§  Click on View Details.

 

 

 

§  The Cost will be displayed under List Price.

NOTE: While a Cancellation Fee may not be listed, there could be a late cancellation fee. Please read the notes of any cost based event for the full cancellation policy.


 

How do I register for a course with a fee associated?

The registration process will vary depending upon how the course was located.

§  To Register for an activity with a cost associated with it click the Register button, either from a direct link that has been provided or after locating the course through Search.

 

NOTE: A direct link may also be provided that by-passes the “Register” button and provides the opportunity to select the offering you wish to attend (see the next step below).

§  Choose the offering that you would like to attend, select any associated sessions, and click the Purchase button.  You will then be taken to the Payment page.

 

 

§  To Complete Payment

o   In the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom

§  Enter your credit card information and click ok. A confirmation message will be provided once the transaction is complete. If the transaction is not processed successfully, a specific error message will display.

 

o   In Germany, Austria, and Switzerland

§  If you are paying by post pay account, select the account you are authorized to use to make the purchase, and click the Pay Now button.  You will be able to view an invoice for the payment. 

 

After making any purchase, confirmation of payment can be viewed in the PLC by navigating to Learn à Learning Activity Reports à Invoice Report.  Clicking the invoice number in the report will show the details of the purchase. An invoice will also be sent as a PDF document to the email address used during registration.

 

 

LM IT Services AG, Germany is the contracting partner for ecommerce activities in the PLC.  With your registration you have agreed to pass on your data to them.  Charges for your training will appear on your statement as a charge from LM IT Services AG, Germany. 


 

How do I attend a Live Meeting?

In order to join a live online course, you MUST REGISTER for the Live Meeting PRIOR to the Start Time. If you attempt to register for the Live Meeting after the session has started, you will receive an error message, and will not be able to join. See the Section “How do I Register for a course” for registration instructions.

Once registered, there are several ways to join the meeting. The Start button is available for you to join the meeting up to 30 minutes prior to the start time until the end time.  Here are the different ways you can attend the meeting:

§  Click on the link provided in the registration confirmation or reminder email. Join the Live Meeting by clicking on the Start button.

§  If you have the Outlook Calendar Add-in installed, when you register for the Live Meeting the event will be automatically published to your Outlook calendar.  Click on the link in the Outlook appointment and join the Live Meeting by click on the Start button.

§  On the PLC homepage, the activity will be listed on your To Do List. The Start button for the Live Meeting will be available up to 30 minutes prior to the start time. Click this button to join the Live Meeting.

§  Go to your Training Schedule by clicking Learn à Training Schedule in the navigation menu and locate the Live Meeting activity. The Start button will be displayed for the event up to 30 minutes prior to the start time. Click this button to join the Live Meeting.

If an audio option is provided by telephone, the dialup number and PIN will be included in the Audio Information section of your Registration Confirmation and Outlook Calendar Reminder.

If you leave the Live Meeting prior to the end time, you can rejoin the meeting by clicking the Start button on the PLC homepage, your Training Schedule, or the Activity Details page.  The Start button will be available throughout the duration of the meeting but will not be available after the meeting end time.

In order to attend Live Meeting events, you must have the Live Meeting client installed on your computer.  Click here to get it.


 

5.     Managing your To Do List

The To Do list on the PLC Homepage lists all Registered and In Progress training courses.

§  Roll the mouse over any title to see the full text of the Title.

§  Single click on the Title of a course to view details, which will appear at the bottom of the screen.

§  For more information, including the full course title and description, click on the View Details button.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


§  Any other action, such as cancelling a registration, can be done from the Other Actions drop down menu.

 

§  To apply further filtering, use the drop down menu in the upper right hand corner.

 

 

 

 

 


 


How do I cancel my registration for a course?

NOTE: If the training you wish to cancel has a fee associated with it, be sure to review the cancellation policy prior to cancelling. You may or may not be refunded the full or partial payment.

§  From your To Do list, locate the course using the steps provided above.

 

§  Click on the Other Actions drop down menu and Click on Cancel Registration.

§  On the Cancellation confirmation page, review the selected items for cancellation and click Cancel Marked.


 

6.     Training Schedule

The Training scheduled can be used to view your  activities.

§  Click on Training Schedule from the PLC Homepage.

 

§  There are multiple ways to filter and view your Training schedule, use the View drop down menu to make your desired selection.


7.     Training Transcript

You may review all of your completed courses on the Training Transcript page.

§  Click on Training Transcript from the PLC Homepage.

§  Your completed courses can be filtered by completion period, use the drop down menu to do so.

 

 

§  If you need a hard copy, you may export your training transcript to PDF by clicking on Export to PDF button in the upper right hand corner.

§  To print a completion certificate, click on the Certificate icon next to the course. A new window will open; click Print in the upper right hand corner.

 

8.     Installing the PLC Outlook Calendar Add-in

With the PLC Outlook Calendar Add-in installed, live events that you are register for will be added to your Outlook Calendar.

§  Click on Install PLC Outlook Calendar Add-in from the PLC Home Page.

§  Click Run.

§  Follow the steps in the Installation Wizard.

 

§  Exit from the Installation Wizard once installation is complete by clicking on Close.

 

 

I registered for a course, how do I add it to my Outlook calendar?

§  Any training in the PLC that has a scheduled start and end time will be published as an appointment to your Outlook calendar after the Calendar add-in has been installed.

 

§  After you register for a course with a start and end time, it will automatically be added to your calendar. You may notice that a new window opens briefly and then closes. At that time, the course is being added to your Outlook calendar.

 

NOTE: If your calendar is not updated after you register, you can add it manually by clicking on the link provided in the confirmation email.


 

9.     Getting Support

§  If you need to Contact Microsoft for additional help, or to report problems accessing links or downloads, problems with navigation, or if you have content-related questions, use the Contact Us link in the bottom left hand corner.

§  For individual course questions, you may also locate the course by using the Search feature of the PLC.

§  Single click on the Title of the course to view details, which will appear at the bottom of the screen.

§  To see expanded details, click on the View Details button.
